How It All Started: A Concrete Journey

For countless years, I’ve been immersed in the concrete business - a trade I got into at 17. As a shuttering carpenter, my days revolved around working with reinforced concrete for diverse projects including foundations, car parks, bridges and swimming pools. However, amidst the rugged world of construction, I always had a longing to do something more creative.

Cooking is a hobby of mine and when I decided to build an outdoor kitchen, I embarked on a quest for the perfect material. After much research, fibre reinforced concrete emerged as the ideal choice. It’s durability, strength and low maintenance made it a clear winner. Little did I know that this decision would alter the course of my life. With newfound enthusiasm, I transformed my hobby into a business. My workshop  became the hub where creativity met concrete.

Back in 2017, the market for concrete furniture and products was still niche in the UK, yet, within two years, demand surged. My construction business took a backseat. Our clientele expanded beyond borders from the UK to Europe and we have even worked on projects in the USA and Dubai.

The artistic aspect of concrete design thrills me, the way a piece can transform a space and the look on a customer’s face when they see the finished piece in situ is something special. It really has turned into an obsession.

Gecko Polished Concrete was founded by myself Andy Town and partner Sophia. Together we share a life-long passion for custom concrete design, its beauty, sophistication and timelessness, its versatility, strength and durability. Simply put, creative concrete is our thing!

Uniquely (we believe), Gecko brings together lifetime experiences of both concrete and interior design. My two decades working in reinforced concrete on civil engineering projects and Sophia’s background in design means a boundless energy and imagination for all things custom concrete…

As a polished concrete specialist we’re proud to work with some of the UK’s most creative homeowners, architects and interior designers on an eclectic mix of bespoke residential and commercial concrete projects, for interior and exterior spaces, concrete pieces big and small.

Our polished concrete design and fabrication process all happens here in the company’s own workshops based in the beautiful Cotswold village of Maysey Hampton  and we work with private and business customers throughout the UK.  We have also worked on international projects.
